UN Migrant Rights Convention Entered Into Force!!

On July 1, 2003 the UN Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (International Migrant Rights Convention)-an international treaty that establishes binding standards on the treatment and human rights of documented and undocumented migrant workers and their families. Guatemala became the 20th country to ratify the treaty, fulfilling the requirement for the minimum number of ratifications needed for the convention to enter into force. El Salvador quickly became the 21st country, and Mali, the 22nd to ratify. The United Nations will now establish an office to monitor the Convention’s implementation, as well as an international committee to review countries’ adherence to the treaty. (The United States has not signed onto this treaty.)
