Washington, D.C. – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva is leading a delegation from the House of Representatives to Tucson and Nogales, Ariz., on Feb. 10thfor an ad hoc border field hearing to examine effective border policy. The day will include a congressional tour of the U.S.-Mexico Border, a closed-door security briefing with law enforcement officials, and a community rally at San Miguel High School in Tucson, where Rep. Grijalva will deliver keynote remarks.

Congressional participants include Reps. Luis Gutierrez (IL-04), Silvestre Reyes (TX-16) and Michael Honda (CA-15).

“What we’ve come to think of as ‘the border debate’ has drowned out not just the reality of life along the border, but many of our state’s other pressing needs,” Grijalva said. “Today, one in five Arizonans live in poverty. Arizona is the second poorest state in the nation. The people that live and work border communities– my constituents– understand the policy failures that have led us to this broken economy and failed immigration system better than Washington. That’s what this day is going to be about.”
