NNIRR joins dozens of groups in opposing SAFE Act in the House

NNIRR has joined dozens of other organizations today in opposing the dangerous SAFE Act (HR 2278), still pending in the House of Representatives. While groups in Washington and elsewhere have recently rallied for stalled action on immigration reform in the House, a letter with nationwide endorsers urges House leaders Boehner and Pelosi to stop any action on the SAFE Act, whether as a stand alone bill or as part of any other legislation. ACLU, immigrant groups to keep an eye on U.S. Border Patrol after profiling-case win

SEATTLE — The Border Patrol will share records of every traffic stop it makes on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula for 18 months with immigrant advocacy groups as part of a settlement to a lawsuit that said agents were racially profiling people they pulled over.

The agreement settles a lawsuit filed last year by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project against the Border Patrol. The suit alleged that people were stopped and questioned for the way they looked and without reasonable suspicion. Read more >
