RE: Delete All Anti-Immigrant Provisions from the 9/11 Commission bills

Dear Representative [or] Senator:

I am urging you to oppose and delete ALL anti-immigrant and immigration-related provisions in the 9/11 Commission bills, H.R. 10 and S.2845, including the driver’s license and foreign identity document restrictions.

The anti-immigrant provisions in HR 10 and the driver’s license provisions in S.2845, which create a form of national ID card, will only make immigrants and refugees more vulnerable to abuse and exploitation and undermine our civil liberties.
These provisions have nothing to do with national security and should not be added to the Intelligence Reorganization legislation passed by the Senate.
We are also calling on all Conferees to oppose the driver’s license provisions of the Senate bill that go beyond the 9-11 Commission’s recommendations and to oppose any form of a national ID card in the 9/11 bill.
Further, the proposed measures to increase border enforcement will only perpetuate failed border control policies that have not deterred unauthorized immigration but have only resulted in the deaths of thousands of migrants forced to cross through deadly desert and mountainous terrain.

The 9/11 Commission bill is not the tool to resolve immigration and law enforcement issues that go well beyond the Commission’s recommendations.

Please make our communities safe and protect our civil liberties: Delete all anti-immigrant provisions from the 9/11 Commission bill.

Sincerely,

YOUR NAME
