NNIRR at La Via Campesina Migration Commission Meeting

This past September, NNIRR's Program Director for International Migrants Rights, Colin Rajah, was invited by La Via Campesina (LVC) to present a briefing to their International Commission on Migration meeting in Mexico City.

The commission is responsible for LVC's global movement of peasants' work around displacement from loss of farm land and migrant farmworkers.  The commission was meeting in Mexico City to prepare its program for the next few years, and as a lead up to LVC's international assembly in Indonesia next year.  The meeting also coincided with the LVC North American Regional meeting. Colin delivered an extensive presentation on current policy issues facing migrants around the world, key international opportunities for advocacy, and important moments for global mobilization and movement building. The commission deliberted on this intensely and agreed to mobilize the global LVC movement around the upcoming World Social Forum on Migrations (WSFM) taking place in Manila this November, and the UN High Level Dialogue on Migration and Development taking place next fall in New York.

NNIRR is looking forward to working closely with LVC towards both these major international mobilizations, alongside our other international partners.
