Join the Migrants' Day 'Tweet Storm' Today

Today, December 18, International Migrants' Day will be acknowledged around the world. It is a day when we recognize and celebrate the role and contributions of migrants in our communities and countries--and mourn the loss of of those whose often desperate journeys have taken their lives.

Please join us on International Migrants' Day in calling for justice and dignity for ALL migrants in the U.S. and globally.

Shout out against racism and xenophobia on social media, in community activities and actions. Let's lift up our demands for an end to immigrant detentions and deportations, and for a halt and rollback of border militarization.

Share your messages, photos and activities for migrant rights and justice throughout the day on both Twitter and Facebook with these tags:

Let's storm social media with our call for rights and justice!

UN Activities and Messages on International Migrants' Day

The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is launching a series of animated videos "to amplify the stories of migrants, of the communities that welcome them and the conversations they have along the way." The videos will be released weekly under their initiative, #StandUp4HumanRights.

Read a statement from UN experts, including the new Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants, Felipe Gonzalez Morales, a "Call for States to spearhead a new way of thinking, speaking and acting on migration".

In part, the statement reads, "It is important to change the narrative and the approach by which migration is viewed. States must stop perpetuating the myth to stop irregular migration, and criminalizing irregular entry and stay, and move from a zero-tolerance attitude to a human rights-based approach to migration, fostering inclusiveness and integration."
