U.S. IMMIGRATION ISSUES & PROGRAMS

This page is dedicated to providing summary information on legislative proposals and passed legislation, NNIRR position statements on key policy positions reflecting our mission and values, and analysis on current immigration issues in the U.S.

INTERNATIONAL MIGRANT RIGHTS & JUSTICE

Recognizing the unparalleled global political and economic structures that have exacerbated regional, national and international patterns of migration, NNIRR works to build international civil society cooperation to strengthen human rights, welfare and safety of migrants and refugees across borders. This includes international migrant rights advocacy and engagement with intergovernmental international institutions, including the U.N. and the current process for a Global Compact for Migration.

SEEKING BORDER JUSTICE

NNIRR has initiated the Just Borders program to advocate for the human rights, safety and dignity of all migrants and refugees, and to draw attention to the human rights crisis at the U.S. border. Our work with border groups in Arizona, Texas and California aims to:

  • Expose human rights abuses & the rise in migrant deaths
  • Call for an end to racial profiling and violations of rights and due process
  • Push for demilitarization of the border
  • Ensure community voices are present in policy affecting the region
  • Advocate for international migrants' rights and rights for all at borders

EDUCATION & CAPACITY BUILDING RESOURCES

NNIRR has developed tools, fact-sheets, discussion guides, and access to resources for communities to access for immediate help: legal directory, immigrant hotlines, and Know Your Rights flyers produced by partners in the immigrant legal advocacy arena.

FORMER NNIRR PROGRAMS & ARCHIVES

NNIRR has a rich history of past innovative programs and corresponding resources that are still relevant in work to protect and expand human rights and immigrant justice today. These programs include: Human Rights Immigrant Community Action Network (HURRICANE), Raising Women's Voices for Immigrant Justice, LGBT Outreach & Leadership programs, and past resources and documentation related to immigrant rights organizing during past Census and Election cycles.
