Recipes on the Move: Sustaining the Movement for Immigrant Rights
LATEST NEWS
In celebration of NNIRR's 25-year history Bridging Communities, Breaking Down Walls, NNIRR has compiled a collection of 27 special recipes and stories reflecting the diverse migrant communities that make up the National Network. Recipes on the Move is a 70-page collection of delicious recipes from migrant groups representing over 18 nationalities, now living in 21 cities across the US and around the globe.
Included recipes come from Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Eritrea, Guatemala, Guinea Conakry, Guyana, India, Iran, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines and several regional recipes from around the United States.
"Food is one way to gently bridge communities and break down walls of intolerance, ignorance and fear. The simple act of sharing a meal, especially those familiar foods from family and community, connects us to our values and our dreams for justice." (from the Introduction, Recipes on the Move).
Accompanying each detailed recipe is a short story, offering a glimpse into the cultural origins of the recipe and the importance of these dishes in the hearts (and bellies) of the authors, their familiest, their past and contemporary communities.
