Campaigns and initiatives NNIRR is supporting:

Investigate Border Militarization

Donald Trump has deployed 7,000 service members to the southern border—even though the military is supposed to be separate from domestic enforcement. Trump’s use of military personnel as political pawns to fulfill his racist, anti-immigrant agenda is a dangerous authoritarian move that further threatens our democracy and terrorizes people seeking refuge. SIGN THE PETITION to urge the Department of Defense Inspector General to investigate US military at the border NOW!

No Hotels for ICE

As part of it's zero tolerance strategy, the Administration is planning to use hotels for immigrant detention. Some hotel chains -- Marriott International, Hilton Hotels, Choice Hotels, and Hyatt Hotels Corporation -- have already pledged to reject ICE requests to jail immigrants on their properties. But we need to keep the pressure on other hotel chains to go on record, make sure that those who have released statements keep their commitments -- and ensure that franchisees and staff do the same.

Hotels have collaborated with ICE in the past, including a well-known case of Motel 6, which was sued for sharing client information with ICE.

NNIRR is joining with several other organizations to send a message to Best Western Hotels and Resorts, Drury Hotels, Extended Stay America, G6 Hospitality, InterContinental Hotels Group, Radisson, Red Lion Hotels, Red Roof and Wyndham Hotels. Please join us! #NoHotelsforICE   #EndDetention

#DefundHate

Detention Watch Network launched this initiative to cut off the flow of money that allows the Department of Homeland Security to deport and detain our community members. Money is one of the only barriers to Trump’s DHS fully enacting its hate-fueled detention and deportation nightmare. Check out the campaign messaging and other tools and stay up-to-date on the current campaign.

Support US Ratification of UN Migrant Workers Convention

Please join the NNIRR in seeking ratification of the UN Convention on the Protection of Rights for All Migrant workers and Members of Their Families, also known as the Migrant Workers Convention or "MWC".

Sign the Call for Support! Over the coming months (and likely, years) we will be raising awareness among policy makers and the public to urge that the U.S. affirm its commitment to the human rights of immigrants by ratifying the Convention. Our education campaign will make the links between international protections enshrined in the MWC and other international agreements to our own fight for equality and justice for immigrants in this country. And, ratification by the U.S. would send a signal to the rest of world about this country's support for human rights.

National Prison Divestment Campaign

The National Network has joined a national campaign targeting the private prison construction industry, which promotes and profits from the incarceration of immigrant men, women and children and others in the U.S. and worldwide. Enlace, in partnership with community groups and unions across the US, is calling on all public and private institutions to divest their holdings in Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) and GEO Group, America’s largest private prison corporations which have profited from billions in taxpayer money. Read more...

Affirm the Dignity & Humanity of All People: Drop the I-word!

The Applied Research Center and Colorlines.org have launched a public education campaign to eradicate the use of the word "illegals" from every-day use and public discourse. The i-word is a dehumanizing racial slur that opens the door to racial profiling and violence, and prevents a respectful and genuine debate on immigration. Join NNIRR and urge your co-workers, neighbors, friends, and allies to Drop the I-Word and affirm the dignity and humanity of all people! Read more...
